Summer is winding down but there is still time to celebrate the uniqueness of the season and the joy of riding your motorcycle on the open road.
If you are looking for a special road trip you might enjoy joining the crew from Wild Wind Motorcycle Tours on a ride to the Burning Man Festival in Black Rock Desert, Nevada will be held this year from August 25 to September 1.
The 2008 art theme is “The American Dream” and this event has been called a once-in-a-lifetime, not-to-be missed experience in a location is perfect for refining your motorcycle riding skills.
Since 1986, the Burning Man Festival has been centered on the power of art.
A motorcycle is a work of art in motion: riding through the magnificent scenery of the Black Rock Desert can be truly awe-inspiring. But come prepared, the 107 degree temperature of the desert can be ruthless.
Wild Wind Motorcycle Tours is based in Arizona and offers a variety of tours to mystical and magical places in the southwest. If you want to ride the legendary Route 66 or the Grand Canyon, these are the bikers to call.
To get a taste of how the Wild, Wild West earned its name, participate in the Arizona Good Guys and Gunslingers tour to “the town to tough to die,” Tombstone, Arizona.
For those bikers who want in on the Wild Wind Motorcycle Tours fun to Burning Man Festival, don’t delay because space is limited.

I’ve been wanting to ride to Burning Man for about 5 years and have never had the right timing to make it happen. I intend to make it a priority for 2010. It’s about a 1200 mile journey, but damn, it’ll be worth it,
Hey Johnny. My best recomendation is to just jump on your bike and start riding. Look at lists to pack, find somebody to help you bring in food and water, and then just do it.
I made the trip last year, at over 2,500 miles, from NC. Best decision I ever made in my life. So yes, it will be worth it.
hey johnny I am with a group of three riders who will be riding to burning man this year from portland oregon. it would be awesome to meet up with another “crazy person” that decided to ride there and back.
dave
perhaps im a little behind the times here… but im a little concerned about taking my bike (aka my baby) into the desert to visit burning man… is there anything i should worry about regarding corrosion or engine problems? filters clogs? i know the “the playa” has dust storms and crud, i just want to take precautions to save my bike from any harm or damage.
This will be my second burn-on-a-bike. I live in Maryland now but I will be riding from Portland via Crater Lake. droppedbrd send me an email and we’ll try to connect at or before the burn.
That goes for any of y’all who want to connect or have any questions about having a bike at the burn.
oh . . . tjvaughn. your bike WILL get dirty. you’ll be riding for at least 2 miles thru the alkaline dust and parking it for the duration of the burn. it has been rumored that the dust will corrode your electrics (not in my experience) so dust them with baking soda before if you’re concerned.
Advice to tj and anyone else considering taking a bike to the burn:
I’ve been riding for 13 years. I’ve done everything I’ve ever wanted to do, seen everything I’ve wanted to see, been everywhere I’ve wanted to go (including a 12,000 mile motorcycle tour of New Zealand this winter) and BURNING MAN IS THE SINGLE MOST FASCINATING, ECLECTIC, WONDERFUL, BROADENING, CRAZY EXPERIENCE I’VE EVER HAD. and no, I’m not a drug user or even much of a drinker, but I felt like I was tripping the whole time!
JUST F*CKING GO!!
so yeah… the other two I was riding with have flaked on me and I’m not going to go solo. I’ve found another group to join as far as campmates etc… but riding is out, at least for this year. maybe I will see you there (doubt it but you never know) unless you know what camp you will be in?
I’ll be at 4:30 and esplanade. Look for my teal tent tucked next to a BMW r1100gs – extra dusty!
Btw – why no solo ride? I’ve logged over 100,000mi solo in 5 countries, and I’m a “girl”
I’m going with the “lost machine” group (they have a pirate ship with a 10 ft dia. steel hubless front wheel)
we plan on camping in the 7:30-9:00 & B area
